Why do I have a burning sensation in my vulva area?

Ask the Nurse

For more than one and half years, I have had a vaginal burning as the result of wearing sanitary pads. I have used 13 different topical creams with no results. I am now on estradiol cream two times a week for dryness, but my doctor has also recommended pelvic floor therapy. Will this help? My doctor is a vaginal specialist physician group, but has yet to come up with an answer to this literally "burning" problem.

Why do I have no energy, appetite or memory after surgery?

Ask the Nurse

I've had three surgeries this year: knee replacement in late April, in late June I had emergency surgery to remove part of my colon, and one month ago I had reverse ostomy surgery. This last surgery has kicked my butt! I feel like it's taken me so long to recover. I have no energy, no appetite and no memory. I go back for follow up with my surgeon on December 20. Is it just that my body has been through so much and it's going to take time to recover?

Am I in menopause if I'm still getting a period?

Ask the Nurse

When menopause starts, isn’t the period supposed to lessen? I turned 47 and I’m getting my period every 2 weeks like clockwork. (It has been 14 weeks now.) Could something be wrong with me?

What are the chances that I'm pregnant?

Ask the Nurse

I have a question concerning my chances of pregnancy. I was taking regular birth control, but stopped taking them when I was on antibiotics for a throat infection. After a day from my last antibiotic, I restarted my birth control, and I understand I need to wait seven days for it to kick it.

However, the fourth day I had intercourse with my partner and used condoms. We made sure nothing slipped and no condom broke to my knowledge. But he accidentally touched the outside of my private with possible seminal fluid. I had emergency contraception from a previous experience and decided to take it after 28 hours of the incident. The next day, I woke up with an increased amount of white discharge, breast tenderness, clumpy pale yellow cervical mucus (sticky and somewhat stretchy) and I became highly concerned if I ovulated.

I am age 66 and I hurt on my right hip and lower back. I can hardly get out of bed at times! I am sexually active, have had my tubes tied and have not had any periods for several years. What Does An Unusually Heavy Period Mean?

Ask the Nurse

I am 26 years old and my period has always been regular, lasting 3 to 4 days. I am married and sexually active, only using a pull out method. My cycle was late by 4 days last month and lasted 8 days. It was very heavy and painful, not my usual cycle.

I have taken a pregnancy test and it was negative, but now my worry is that implantation happened the same time as my period days. If it did, when will I be able to tell with a home pregnancy test? I want to say I miscarried last month, but I have no other symptoms so far. I am worried because I do drink alcohol regularly.

Is it safe to have sex while using Intrarosa®?

Ask the Nurse

My OB/GYN prescribed me vaginal Prasterone/DHEA/Intrarosa® for premenopausal vaginal PH issues causing me discomfort and infections. My husband and I engage in sex before I put the Intrarosa in, however my questions are:

  1. Is it safe to have oral sex since I used the medication the night before?
  2. Is it already absorbed and gone?
  3. Will it harm my husband?

Sexual Function

Ask the Nurse

I am almost 50 years old and have been married 22 years. I have to have direct stimulation to the clitoris using a massager to climax, whereas before I didn’t. What is the issue? When I was younger I had some trauma to the genitals from a bike accident. I want to enjoy my husband without having to use “toys." It makes me feel less than what I was. When I mention this problem to my GYN, we did blood work, which found I have low white blood cells. Expensive testing, but no cancer, but still no answers for this either.

What Is A Good Postmenopausal Treatment?

Ask the Nurse

I am a postmenopausal woman, weaning myself off of systemic topical estrogen. My gynecologist recommended Osphena®, but said I should wait one month before using, and the package said it could be months before I notice a difference! Also, there are all kinds of warnings regarding blood clots. Really? Wouldn't an estrogen cream be safer, effective and faster?

What treatment will help my painful intercourse?

Ask the Nurse

I'm having painful intercourse despite using vaginal lubricants and hormone therapy. I'm a BRCA2 carrier with a history of ER/PR positive breast cancer. My main problem is pain with increasing vaginal dilation during intercourse. I don't have pain with initial penile insertion or with insertion of a vaginal probe during a pelvic ultrasound. Will pelvic floor stimulation or perhaps the Mona Lisa Touch treatment help painful intercourse?
