Ask the Nurse

I am age 66 and I hurt on my right hip and lower back. I can hardly get out of bed at times! I am sexually active, have had my tubes tied and have not had any periods for several years. Could this be a tubal pregnancy? Could this be a bladder infection? I do drink water, but how much should I drink?

You should see a medical physician for an examination for orthopedic problems, including your back pain and an evaluation of your hip pain. At age 66, there is not a chance of tubal pregnancy. However, since you are postmenopausal and a woman, you could have a bladder infection and thus need your urine checked. Some foods can irritate the bladder, but generally do not cause hip and back pain. In general, 6-8 glasses of 8 ounces of water is enough for most people.
