I had my aortic valve replaced in 2015. Everything is normal now, but should I use hormone therapy for heart protection? I am post-menopausal since 2008.
Stroke or Medication Side Effect?
November 28, 2017 at 2:55pm
Can amitriptyline cause stroke or stroke symptoms?
I was recently put on amitriptyline for throat spasms. My spasms were severe in my neck and throat area. But amitriptyline has given me terrible side effects - I thought I was having a stroke. I had to go on blood pressure medicine because amitriptyline gave me high blood pressure.
Are My Heart Issues Anxiety or Something Else?
December 13, 2016 at 10:28am
I find myself up during the night worried that I have heart issues.
I can feel my heart beating and it seams fast at times, but I sometimes feel I am missing several beats, this worries me. I sometimes have this chocking going on, so I drink lots of water to stop that feeling. Why is this happening?
Estrogen Therapy Post-Hysterectomy
July 23, 2015 at 10:19am
I am 54 years old and just had a total hysterectomy with ovaries removed a month ago. My menopausal symptoms (hot flashes, night sweats) are not bad and I can tolerate them.
My doctor has not put me on HRT yet, but I am worried about osteoporosis and I am experiencing some depression, vaginal dryness and dry skin and hair. I will be seeing my doctor soon, and would like to ask for estrogen replacement therapy.
My concern is that I have high blood pressure, which is under control by medication. I take plavix as I was diagnosed with TIA 4 years ago (blurred speech, last few seconds; no damage done). Since then I follow a good diet and exercise regularly. My last blood test was excellent. My mom had a mild stroke when she was 74 due to poor diet and she recovered from it.
My question is: Is it ok for me to go on estrogen therapy? I am not quite myself. Please help.

Lowering LDL Cholesterol
July 17, 2013 at 10:20am
I recently read a newsletter that featured a section on lowering one’s LDL and it recommended the use of statins. However, and given this is a newsletter specifically focused on women’s health, it has been my understanding that there has been no good research results to date linking the use of statins to lower LDL in women and the prevention of heart disease.
I have had high LDL since my early 30s, and despite the fact that I eat almost no saturated fat and I exercise frequently and rigorously, it has not gone down. I did go on a statin for a while, but felt some muscle weakness, which I did not want to tolerate, as I felt it was interfering with my workouts. Because of my concern and because I could find no good evidence for the use of statins in women, I discontinued its use.
I would love to hear your opinion and that of other medical professionals from the Center for Women’s Health on this issue. Thank you.
Triglycerides
September 14, 2012 at 3:14pm
How can I lower my triglycerides? I exercise at least 60 – 70 minutes a week on an elliptical at a level of 13. I eat fish twice a week and take a fish oil supplement as well.
I do not eat beef and eat very little other meat. And I eat pumpkin seed daily on my lunch salad. I need help!
