I had my aortic valve replaced in 2015. Everything is normal now, but should I use hormone therapy for heart protection? I am post-menopausal since 2008.
Menopausal hormone therapy is not used for heart valve replacement. Usually, hormone therapy is started within 10 years of menopause. You should see a menopausal specialist to assess the following:
- menopausal symptoms
- bone status
- vaginal, bladder and sexual function
- cardiac risks factors, including weight
- waist circumference
- blood pressure
- cholesterol rations
- cancer prevention screening
- discuss types of hormone therapy and the targets
You can visit menopause.org for a list of certified menopause specialists.
