Ask the Nurse

I am a black female over the age of 50, and I have light spots on my legs. Is there something I can do?

Light spots are usually as a result of hypopigmentation or depigmentation. This can be a result of:

  • A condition like Vitiligo
  • Certain creams, especially those containing hydroquinone or steroid
  • Some fungal infections like Pityriasis versicolor

The treatment will depend on what is causing it.

I recommend that you see your primary care physician or dermatologist so they can determine the best treatment for you.
