Ask the Nurse

What is the best hormone therapy (HT)? I had a hysterectomy with bilateral oophorectomy when I had surgery for creation of an ileostomy. I still have issues with hot flashes, but I do not like taking pills. Is there another option?

There are multiple options for hormone therapy that are not in pill form including:

  • Patches
  • Sprays
  • Gels

Typically, when ovaries are removed, a woman no longer needs progesterone, only estrogen is needed. Please see your women’s health physician to discuss what hormone therapy options are available and right for your body.
