Ask the Nurse

If taking antibiotics why is getting a spine epidural not allowed?

There are many factors that weigh into spinal anesthesia versus general anesthesia. If this is related to pain and getting an elective spinal epidural for pain relief (not surgery), the treating physician may not want to do the epidural on a patient with active bacterial infection - hence antibiotic therapy. Be sure to follow up with your physician.
