Ask the Nurse

As I get older I seem to be developing more skin tags. Is this something to be concerned about? They aren’t misshapen or colored funny, just skin colored tags. Can I just clip them off?

Skin tags are very common; in fact, approximately 25% of the population have these benign (non cancerous growths). Depending on the number and location, some people chose to undergo removal.

There are various methods of excision, including minor surgery or removal with liquid nitrogen. All of these are office-based procedures.

We also recommend routine skin evaluations by a dermatologist to check for other skin conditions and other nevi (moles) which may be pre-cancerous.
