Ask the Nurse

I had a partial hysterectomy (still have my ovaries) and my G.P. told me I didn’t need pelvic exams. Several of my friends who have had the same procedure get pelvic exams. Should I have one?

Yes, you should have pelvic exams annually regardless of having had a hysterectomy. Additionally, if the surgery was done to remove a cancer, then you will require a pap test, otherwise you do not.
