Ask the Nurse

I took Teriparatide/Forteo® years ago. My DXA/Bone density now shows the osteoporosis has returned. Can I take Abaloparatide/Tymlos® now?

Both are anabolics and are similar PTH analogue therapies that are generally only used for 24 months. In the summer, a new anabolic Romo/Evenity® should be available as a monthly injection and is a different type of bone builder. After a two year course of either Teriparatide/Forteo® or Abaloparatide/Tymlos®, a patient should generally have the therapy solidified with IV Zoledronic Acid/Reclast® infusion or every 6 months Denosumab/Prolia®.
