Ask the Nurse

Other than Estradiol vaginal cream and D-Mannose capsules, what can help the urinary urgency feeling I get at age 66? I have been checked for UTI and I usually don’t have one.

Local vaginal estrogen may reduce urinary tract infections. The evidence is not clear whether D-Mannose reduces UTI, although may reduce bacterial adherence.

However, if you have urinary urgency without infection, you may have overactive bladder. You need to see your physician for an evaluation and treatment. There are medication and non-medication therapies, including pelvic stimulation devices.
