Ask the Nurse

What does it mean to have yellow, sometimes white, but always very opaque discharge shoot out and down your leg?

Vaginal discharge that is white to opaque to slightly yellow can be normal. If there is an increase in volume or other symptoms, you should see a physician or women’s health nurse practitioner for evaluation and cultures.

Desquamative vaginitis can cause profuse discharge.

  • Wearing pads and liners can make this worse.
  • Do not douche.
  • Regular vulvar care is important.
