Ask the Nurse

Can I double up on vitamins to help with thinning hair and brittle nails? I have had my estrogen checked and it is normal. I am 54 years old.

It is best you see your physician and get your Iron/Ferritin Zinc and Vitamin D levels checked. Doubling up on vitamins is not a good idea as just twice the RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowances) of vitamin A, a fat soluble vitamin, may be a problem.

Ingesting a good diet with high quality protein is important and taking biotin may help thinning nails.
