Ask the Nurse

I have cellulitis in both legs and sometimes my skin seeps. My nephew is in the hospital with Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and has to get his toe amputated, is he contagious?

MRSA is a serious infection. You should get permission from your nephew’s physician and your physician regarding visitation. It is very important to employ good hand washing techniques and avoid contact with broken skin. See your physician regarding your cellulitis treatment.
