Ask the Nurse

What thoughts do you have about including therapeutic massage as part of a healthcare plan for type 2 diabetes?

A massage involves manipulating the superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques. Therapeutic massage is a massage. which is offered with the goal of achieving a therapeutic benefit. Therapeutic massage has been medically proven to help with stress reduction, pain relief and improve overall well-being.

Studies have shown that with therapeutic massage the following can be reduced:

  • Pain
  • Anxiety
  • Muscle tension

Many patients can benefit from therapeutic massage, not just diabetics. For many patients, therapeutic massage occurs in the form of physical therapy. During these sessions muscle tone is improved and flexibility is increased. Regardless of a person’s diagnosis, whether it is Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Cervical degenerative disc disease, if there is a therapeutic benefit to be achieved, then therapeutic massage should be offered.
