Question:

I noticed a rash on my temple about a week ago and my eye was hurting pretty bad. I didn't think much about it, but a few days later it wasn't getting any better and the pain was still there so I went to my doctor who diagnosed me with shingles.

My doctor put me on a antiviral medication and said she hoped it wouldn't spread, but it did spread to my forehead and in my hair. It's very painful especially, the headaches. I saw my physician  after one week, and she couldn't believe the shingles spread so much. She put me on three more days of antiviral medications. She was very encouraging to me and said that I had done really well under the circumstances. I still feel awful and the sores are still there, so my questions are: (I forgot to ask my doctor this) how long will these sores stay on my face, will I have scaring and when will I feel like my old self again? I feel weak and the headaches come and go, even though I'm taking naproxen. Thank you.

Question:

I have noticed that my skin has lightened around my throat area. Is this something to worry about? I am 64 years old and had radiation for breast cancer on my left side in 2006.

I had my blood levels checked in June. I had a good mammogram and doctor's visit in October. My only health concern is trying to control my cholesterol levels. Is there anything I should worry about?

Question:

Can you tell me what kind of treatment is available for rosacea? I have really bad bumps and redness on my face. I know there is a way to treat it, but how? I keep washing my face day and night, and the doctor gave me some medicine, but neither are helping. What can I do?

Question:

My skin tags are driving me crazy! I have a couple, and my husband has many on his body. They are definitely unsightly, but more importantly, they are uncomfortable. The skin tags under my arms and on my legs interfere with shaving and rub on my clothing. The skin tags that are on the outside of my hips and upper thighs tend to get caught on my clothing when I’m dressing.

And if I have skin tags on my neck, they get irritated by shirt necklines and necklaces. Our insurance only covers one or two skin tags in a year. What can we do to minimize the growth of skin tags?

Question:

I have one very large and bulging vein protruding from the calf of my right leg. In my 30s, I sustained a human bite in that spot, with deep bruising that lasted a long time. What are the risks associated with leaving this vein untreated and what are my treatment options and outcomes of treatment?

Question:

I am 59 years old, post-menopausal, in good health, and at a healthy body weight. For the last 3 - 4 years I have had problems with thinning of the skin on my hands, arms, and upper body, and excessive bleeding under the skin.  At this point, the slightest bump or scrape results in skin tears with a lot of bleeding, and/or large (sometimes painful) 'blood blisters' (1" to 3" or more in diameter).  I often attract comments from total strangers who assume I am taking blood thinners. Articles I have read essentially credit this sort of thing to aging (but cite 70s+ as the bracket) or some condition, (ex: adrenal tumors) which my general good state of health would seem to exclude.

I eat a balanced diet, including taking a green food supplement and a liquid-form multi-vitamin daily.  The only medication I take is Vesicare (on it for less than 8 months).  I do not see a doctor, other than my OB/GYN, routinely.

Is this actually 'normal' at my age or should I be concerned? Is there anything diet-wise that might improve the situation?
