Ask the Nurse

I would like to try one of the pelvic stimulating devices for urinary incontinence, but can’t find a physician in my area that prescribes them. We are going to be in Northeast Ohio in the fall, if I were to make an appointment at Cleveland Clinic, how much follow up would I need?

There are five devices made by InControl Medical, of which four are FDA approved for stress or mixed urinary incontinence.

The InTone and InToneMV provide biofeedback to you and its settings must be changed every 4 weeks. Therefore, their use requires more frequent follow-up exams: every 4 weeks for 26 weeks.

The Apex is approved for stress urinary incontinence and the ApexM is approved for mixed urinary incontinence.

We recommend that you come for at least one follow-up exam at approximately 4 weeks after your initial visit, and again after you finish your program. However, neither the Apex nor Apex M provide biofeedback. We recommend you read the column on Vaginal Boot Camp and watch the InTone and Apex videos for more information.

All my best,
