Community Investments

Investment Grants provide an opportunity to extend awareness Speaking of Women’s Health beyond conferences and events that are seen across the country.

In the last ten years, Speaking of Women’s Health has invested more than $2 million into community organizations, foundations and charities that work to improve the lives of women throughout the United States.

Community Investment Grants have included funding for breast cancer support groups, depression screenings, programs for the underserved and battered women’s shelters, among many other wonderful efforts in rural and urban areas. Together, with our sponsors and friends, we will continue to improve the quality of life for women across the country.

These are just a few of the organizations that have received community investment grants in our conference cities nationwide.
MOTHERS HELPING MOTHERS
Sarasota, FL

Since 1990 Mothers Helping Mothers Inc, an all volunteer group, has been providing the basics such as clothing and baby items to families in need.  All items are donated or purchased with grant funding or private contributions, and are passed along to the families in need free of charge.  Additionally, Mothers Helping Mothers offers emotional support and referrals to other agencies in Sarasota County.

Each year, Mothers Helping Mothers assists approximately 900 families, representing 2000 children.  All of this, with no paid employees.

Mothers Helping Mothers is always looking for volunteers.  They also need quality donations in order to provide families with baby items (car seats, cribs, highchairs, etc.), cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, school supplies, clothing, and crisis assistance.

Mothers Helping Mothers is located at 2239 North Washing Blvd. in the Simply Storage complex.  Call ahead for hours of operation or to schedule a pickup – 941-953-7572.

BOONE COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGING
Columbia, MO

With this grant from the National Speaking of Women’s Health Foundation, Boone County Council on Aging will be able to provide health screenings to senior women at its annual Seniorfest.

Two hundred women will be screened free of charge, many who do not have access to routine medical care.  These screenings help women identify if they are at risk for or are suffering from diseases including osteoporosis, heart disease, hypertension, and glaucoma.

BCCA will then provide information about community resources, how to make informed decisions about their well-being, and how to utilize the services they need to live healthier lives.

The screenings are one of many ways BCCA supports aging women and responds to the challenges they face.  One of BCCA’s goals is to help the growing number of senior women remain independent and fully enjoy their retirement years.  Health and well-being are critical to that aim.

SUITED FOR SUCCESS
Miami, FL

Suited for Success was founded in 1994, with a mission to assist low-income women on public assistance with the opportunities to compete and succeed in the workplace.

This year Suited for Success will implement a health education program called CHIP (Coronary Health Improvement Project).  The CHIP program is designed to teach individuals how to take charge of their health by emphasizing the causes, prevention and reversal of common diseases linked to obesity, specifically  diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer and heart disease.

The CHIP program will enable participants to make healthier choices that allow them to enhance the overall quality of their lives.
